Effective Date: August 26, 2025

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Mitecmo.org (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit our website at https://www.mitecmo.org.

1. Information We Collect

We collect personal information you voluntarily provide, primarily through contact forms and donation forms. This includes:

  • Contact Information: Your name, email address, phone number, and the content of your message when you submit an inquiry.
  • Donation Information (via GiveWP): Your name, email address, billing address, and donation amount. Payment details, such as credit card information, are processed securely by third-party payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, PayPal) and are not stored on our servers.
  • Optional Information: Any additional data you choose to provide, such as donation dedications or comments.

We also collect non-personal, technical information automatically from your browser for operational and security purposes. This may include your IP address, browser type, device information, and referring website.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Respond to Inquiries: Address and respond to your questions and requests submitted through our contact forms.
  • Process Donations: Process and confirm your donations, and send receipts and thank-you messages.
  • Detect Spam and Threats: Use technical information, like your IP address, to detect and prevent spam, fraud, or security threats.
  • Improve Our Website: Analyze aggregated, non-personal data to improve our website’s functionality and user experience.
  • Fulfill Legal Obligations: Comply with legal requirements, including responding to lawful requests and fulfilling data breach notification duties under Missouri law.
  • Communicate with You (Future): In the future, we may use your information to send you updates and newsletters, but only if you have explicitly opted in.

3. Third Parties

We use third-party services that may collect and process your information:

  • Payment Gateways: When you donate, our third-party payment gateways (Stripe, PayPal) securely process your payment data. Their privacy policies govern the information they collect.
  • Embedded Content: Our site includes embedded content from third-party services, such as Google Maps. This content may behave as if you visited the third-party site directly, collecting data, using cookies, and tracking your interactions. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies.
  • Future Services: As we grow, we may use additional third-party services (e.g., Google Analytics, email marketing platforms). This policy will be updated to reflect any new data collection or processing activities before they are implemented.

4. Cookies and Tracking

  • Cookies: Our website uses a limited number of cookies for essential functionality, such as securely processing donations. We do not use cookies for advertising or behavioral tracking.
  • Do Not Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC): We do not engage in behavioral tracking and will honor GPC opt-out signals, as required by law.
  • Future Analytics: We plan to implement Google Analytics in the future to understand how visitors use our site. This will involve updating this policy with detailed information about the data collected and how to opt out.

5. Data Retention

  • We retain donor information and financial records for a minimum of seven years to comply with tax and audit requirements.
  • We retain contact form submissions for up to three years or as long as necessary to fulfill your request and our ongoing communication needs.

6. Your Data Rights

You can request that we delete your data at any time by sending an email to contact@mitecmo.org with the subject “Data Deletion Request.”

7. Security

We implement reasonable security measures, including SSL encryption and website security plugins, to protect your data. However, no internet transmission is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
